Brockensammlung Bethel

Brockensammlung Bethel was launched in 1890 and today, it is the largest second-hand sale in East Westphalia. The foundation goes back to an idea of Karl Schnitger, who was then living in Bethel and upset that too many things – were simply thrown away even though only slightly damaged. At his suggestion, Pastor von Bodelschwingh sought to 'collect the remaining chunks so that nothing perished' from the community, which then became the later motto. The response to this call was so great that the intended storage shed was soon no longer sufficient and eventually, it grew into the current new location with improved conditions for customers that has existed since 2016. There are currently 90 employees working in the Bethel Brocken Collection, 20 of whom have an impairment that makes it difficult for them to find a job on the so-called first job market. Here, you will find a permanent job that is tailored to your own potential. In addition, a good 30 drivers and loading assistants work for the collection of the donated textiles and shoes in the parishes and put them on their way to the sorting companies. Here, too, the topic of inclusion is very important.
