Policy Officer – Social Affairs


RREUSE is an international NGO network representing social enterprises active in in re-use, repair and recycling, with 30 members across 28 European countries and the USA. We promote policies, best practices and partnerships that support the development of social enterprises in the circular economy which generate significant social and environmental benefits to their communities.

In order to support RREUSE’s EU work in policy and advocacy, we are looking for a Policy Officer focussed on social affairs to join our Brussels-based secretariat for a fixed period of one year, with the view to move to a permanent contract thereafter.


Reporting to the secretariat’s Director, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out tasks including:

  • Policy monitoring, analysis and drafting of position papers primarily related to the EU’s social economy, inclusion and employment agenda. This includes the upcoming EU Social Economy Action Plan, EU Public Procurement and VAT Directives as well as other key EU priorities, notably the European Pillar of Social Rights and EU Semester Process
  • Representing RREUSE in relevant conferences, workshops and stakeholder events
  • Support in research related to member activities and collection of good practices
  • Representing RREUSE in European projects where RREUSE is a partner
  • Support organisation of events/seminars
  • Coordination of internal policy working groups in the field of social and economic affairs
  • Assisting in the drafting funding applications where necessary
Skills, experience and requirements
  • A minimum of 1-year professional experience in EU affairs and advocacy with a sound understanding of EU policy processes. Familiarity with EU social inclusion or employment policies will be considered a strong asset
  • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken). In addition to English, proficiency in French and one other EU language will be considered an asset
  • Strong project management, analytical and presentation skills
  • Commitment and appreciation for the values of social enterprise and the environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team and coordinate members from different countries and backgrounds
  • EU national or have a valid permit to work in Belgium

Gross Salary level: 2300 EUR/month. Benefits include holiday bonus, 13th month, luncheon

Location: Brussels-based office with flexi-working between home and office

Start date: February / March 2022
